Singapore parliament leader looking forward to Vietnamese counterpart’s visit
VOV.VN - Singapore’s Parliament Speaker Seah Kian Peng has said he is looking forward to meeting with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man of Vietnam during the latter’s official visit from December 1-3.
Peng told Vietnam News Agency ahead of the visit that Man’s upcoming visit is another concrete expression of the excellent bilateral and inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.
He highlighted that Singapore and Vietnam share a strong bilateral relationship underpinned by political trust, robust trade and investment ties, and close people-to-people connections.
Both countries share a common strategic vision and enjoy sustainable high-level engagement between their leaders. Marking 50 years of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2023, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Singapore in February 2023, followed by Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s visit to Vietnam in August of the same year.
Man’s visit to Singapore follows a fruitful meeting between the two parliamentary leaders on the sidelines of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly held in Laos earlier this year.
During a meeting with Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Nen in early November 2024, Singapore Ambassador to Vietnam Jaya Ratnam said that Singapore desires to elevate its relationship with Vietnam to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025.
He said the relationship between the two countries has flourished considerably in recent times and the upgrade will not only recognize the strong existing ties but also create a more robust framework to further strengthen economic, political, and security cooperation in the long term.
