VOV.VN - State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on April 26 received Lao Vice President Pany Yathotou who is in Hanoi for a three-day official visit.
Phuc congratulated Laos on its important achievements in recent years, and expressed his belief that under the clear-sighted leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Laos will successfully implement its socio-economic development plan, effectively control the COVID-19 pandemic and revitalize the economy.
He welcomed the results of earlier talks between the two countries’ Vice Presidents, and emphasized that to further improve the efficiency of bilateral cooperation, the two sides need to continue to coordinate and effectively implement high-level agreements, including those reached during the President’s visit to Laos in August 2021.
More efforts should be made to elevate economic, trade and investment cooperation into a real pillar in the two countries’ relations, he told his guest.
To this end, he suggested that the two countries find effective directions for cooperation projects, especially strategic infrastructure projects that connect the two economies, taking advantage of seaports and 17 free trade agreements (FTAs) Vietnam has signed, including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) of which both Vietnam and Laos are members, in order to expand the market for export goods.
For her part, Vice President Pany Yathotou thanked Vietnam for its valuable support and assistance to Laos in the past and at present, and affirmed that she would continue to do her best together with Vietnamese leaders to constantly cultivate and consolidate the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Both host and guest affirmed the significance of the Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022 between Vietnam and Laos, and said the two countries should coordinate well in organizing activities to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations and 45 years of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.
On this occasion, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc conveyed greetings and best wishes to General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President Thongloun Sisoulith and other senior leaders of Laos.
