PM Chinh meets Crown Prince Charles, world leaders in UK

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on November 3 met with UK Crown Prince Charles, the Prime Ministers of Japan, India, Ireland and Kuwait and other leaders on the sidelines of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 26) in Glasgow, Scotland.

Meeting with Crown Prince Charles, PM Chinh congratulated the UK on its successful organization of COP26, noting the UK takes the lead in making commitments and putting forward initiatives at this summit. He proposed that the UK cooperate and support Vietnam in implementing programs and projects to transform into a low-carbon economy.

Crown Prince Charles said he has long lobbied financial companies to support climate change efforts for developing countries, including Vietnam. He expressed his wish to promote the Vietnam-UK cooperation in the fields of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation in order to develop a green, circular, sustainable and low-carbon economy in Vietnam.

Chinh once again thanked the UK for timely donating COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnam, and expected the UK to provide additional vaccines and essential medical equipment and supplies such as ventilators and drugs to help Vietnam beat off COVID-19.

Crown Prince Charles affirmed that the UK always supports Vietnam in epidemic prevention.

While meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, both leaders expressed their delight at the strong and comprehensive development of the extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan over the years.

Chinh thanked Japan for donating millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses to Vietnam and suggested that it continue supporting Vietnam in pandemic prevention and control.

He also suggested that the two sides work harder for their agricultural products and fruits to penetrate deep into each other’s markets. He affirmed that Vietnam welcomes and creates favourable conditions for Japanese enterprises to do business and expand operations in Vietnam.

For his part, Kishida expressed his wish to visit Vietnam soon, and suggested that the two countries coordinate to maintain investment, business and production activities when the COVID-19 outbreak is under control.

He said the new Japanese government will continue to create conditions for Vietnamese students and interns to return to Japan. He voiced his support for Chinh’s proposal to open the market for certain types of agricultural products.

The two PMs also discussed many international and regional issues of common concern, such as climate change response and coordination at regional and international forums. They stressed the need to maintain peace, stability, security and safety in the East Sea and East China Sea, and to settle disputes by peaceful means through dialogue and in compliance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

The same day, PM Pham Minh Chinh met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin Kuwaiti Prince Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Special Envoy of US President on Climate Change John Kerry and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
