Palau Republic desires to increase cooperation with Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Republic of Palau wishes to promote cooperation in various areas with Vietnam, said Palau officials told Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam at a working session in Tokyo on September 7.

Minister of Human Recourses, Culture, Tourism and Development Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl said Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. is very impressed with Vietnam’s economic development and he wishes to cooperate with the Southeast Asian nation in a number of fields such as construction, infrastructure development, tourism, human resource development and fishing.

In order to strengthen economic and trade relations between Palau and Vietnam, Minister Tmetuchl affirmed that he prioritises encouraging and supporting businesses of the two countries in promoting bilateral economic and trade activities, conducting market research and looking for investment opportunities. He even suggested that the two sides launch a direct flight to facilitate tourism development.

Regarding human resource development, Minister Tmetuchl said that the majority of foreign workers in Palau come from the Philippines, Bangladesh and China, and Palau wants to receive Vietnamese workers to especially work in the fields of construction, infrastructure and fishing.

For his part, Ambassador Vu Hong Nam welcomed the Minister’s proposals and said the two countries need to further discuss and exchange cooperation measures to build a comprehensive cooperation agreement or memorandum of understanding, so as to ramp up cooperation in politics, trade and human resources.

Minister of Public Infrastructure and Industries Charles I. Obichang and a number of parliamentarians from the Republic of Palau also attended the working session.
