New UNDP leader pledges support for Vietnam’s development

VOV.VN - While meeting with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Vietnamese mission to the UN, on October 6, Ramla Al Khalidi, newly appointed UNDP resident representative in Vietnam, said she would continue to promote support for the country’s development.

Among priority areas would be climate change response and overcoming the consequences of the past war, including landmine clearance, she said.

She noted that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s message to the High-Level Meeting on Climate Change co-chaired by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres last September has shown Vietnam’s strong commitment to the international community.

Al Khalidi expressed her belief that the Secretary-General would continue to send a strong message to support Vietnam in responding to climate change. She also hoped that Vietnam would consider adjusting a government decree on the management and use of official development assistance (ODA) and concessional loans from foreign donors to meet the needs of international organizations and development partners in implementing development assistance projects in the country.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang congratulated Al Khalidi on her appointment as the new UNDP resident representative in Vietnam, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Vietnam-UN relations.

He suggested that UNDP continue to accompany Vietnam in implementing the sustainable development goals, share experience, provide consultations for socio-economic development policies, and support the implementation of its commitments at COP-26, including negotiations to establish the Just Energy Transition Partnership with G7 countries.

The diplomat hoped that the UN would work closely in organizing the 45th anniversary of the Vietnam-UN relations in Vietnam at the end of October.
