Mexican Labour Party is Vietnam’s traditional, trusted partner, says top leader
VOV.VN - Built on longstanding friendship and political trust, the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Mexican Labour Party are expanding exchanges on political theory, party building and coordination, with a new 2026-2031 cooperation agreement providing a framework for deeper party-to-party ties.
The message was underscored by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam during a meeting with a high-level delegation of the Mexican Labour Party led by General Secretary Alberto Anaya Gutierrez in Hanoi on August 19.
He said Vietnam regards the Mexican Labour Party (PT) as a traditional and trusted partner, praising the party and its leadership for their contributions to strengthening ties between the two parties and advancing links between the Communist Party of Vietnam and left-wing and progressive forces in Mexico and Latin America.
Amid growing international and regional uncertainties, Party General Secretary and State President stressed the importance of greater solidarity, experience sharing and coordination among left-wing and progressive political forces.
The two sides held Vietnam-Mexico relations have continued to develop positively, particularly in trade, investment and economic cooperation, making the two countries important partners in their respective regions.
Against this foundation, they agreed to further strengthen the guiding role of party-to-party relations in bilateral ties, while expanding channels for exchanges so that shared interests in development, social progress, people's well-being, national independence and sovereignty can be translated into concrete cooperation.
New agreement creates broader space for cooperation
A key step was the signing of the 2026-2031 cooperation agreement between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Mexican Labour Party during the Mexican delegation’s visit to Vietnam.
The agreement was signed by Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung and General Secretary Alberto Anaya Gutierrez on behalf of the two parties following their talks on the morning of August 19.
Under the agreement, the two sides will strengthen exchanges at senior and other levels, organise seminars, thematic discussions and study delegations to share political theory and practical experience, and expand exchanges among different generations, particularly young people.
The new framework marks a shift from political solidarity and mutual support toward deeper exchanges on development experience and party building in practice.
Alberto Anaya Gutierrez praised Vietnam’s achievements under nearly four decades of Đổi mới (Renewal) and said its experience in using a socialist-oriented market economy to promote development and improve people’s living standards could provide useful lessons for left-wing political forces.
The Mexican side proposed holding bilateral political-theory seminars alternately in Vietnam and Mexico and expressed readiness to receive Vietnamese lecturers for academic exchanges.
The two parties also agreed to make greater use of their shared membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to promote trade, business connectivity and cooperation among localities.
During talks between Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung and General Secretary Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, the two sides discussed measures to implement the new agreement, including exchanges of information and experience in socio-economic development and party building, business connections and coordination at multilateral forums.
