Malta hails Vietnam’s rising position regionally, globally

VOV.VN - Maltese President George Vella highly appreciated Vietnam’s economic potential and its increasing position at regional and multilateral forums during his recent reception for Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Hai Hung in Valletta capital.

The Maltese President suggested that Malta and Vietnam should make good use of free trade agreements, including one between the European Union and Vietnam (EVFTA), the impending EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and the ASEAN-EU Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement (AE CATA) to promote effective cooperation in potential areas such as trade, investment, labour, and tourism, as well as in maritime security, climate change and technology, innovation.

President Vella also affirmed that the Maltese authorities will support and help the Ambassador to fulfill his duties in his new position.

Ambassador Duong Hai Hung who earlier presented his credentials to the Maltese President extended senior Vietnamese leaders’ wishes and expressed his pleasure to work as Vietnamese Ambassador to Malta.

He spoke highly of Malta’s post-pandemic economic recovery and its growing role in regional and international affairs, and at the same time congratulated Malta on being elected a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2023-2024 with a high number of votes.

In his new position, the Ambassador affirmed that he would make every effort to fulfill his duties, contributing to ramping up the growing cooperation between the two countries towards 50 years of bilateral diplomacy in 2024.

Currently Duong Hai Hung is Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy cum Malta.
