King Abdullah II warmly welcomed in Hanoi on official visit to Vietnam
VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong hosted a welcoming ceremony in Hanoi on November 12 for His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan, who is paying an official two-day visit to Vietnam.
As the motorcade entered the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong warmly welcomed King Abdullah II on the red carpet. Hanoi’s children presented the King with bouquets of fresh flowers. After the national anthems of both countries were played, the two leaders reviewed the Guard of Honour of the Vietnam People’s Army and introduced members of their respective high-level delegations.
This marks the first-ever visit to Vietnam by the Head of State of Jordan, and also the first exchange of visits at the Head of State/Government level between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1980.
Vietnam and Jordan established diplomatic relations on August 9, 1980. Over the past 45 years, their friendship and cooperative relations have steadily grown. In 2024, bilateral trade reached more than US$188 million, with Vietnam’s exports exceeding US$180 million, mainly consisting of agricultural and aquatic products, electronic components, textiles, chemicals, wood and plastic products, and machinery parts.
The two countries have consistently supported each other at regional and international forums.
This visit demonstrates Jordan’s high regard for its friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, as well as Vietnam’s growing role and position in the region and the world. It also reaffirms Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralisation, valuing relations with Arab nations in general and Jordan in particular.
Building on the strong foundation of 45 years of cooperation, King Abdullah II’s visit is expected to mark a historic milestone in Vietnam–Jordan relations, ushering in a new phase of substantive and effective collaboration across areas of mutual interest.
Following the welcoming ceremony, President Luong Cuong and King Abdullah II led their respective delegations in official talks, reviewing past cooperation achievements and discussing directions for future partnership between the two countries.
