Intel plans to expand operations in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Tech giant Intel will continue to further expand business and investment operations in Vietnam focusing on high technology and environmentally friendly products, CEO Patrick Gelsinger told Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a reception in Hanoi on May 27.

He hailed Vietnam as an attractive destination for investors thanks to its dynamic economy, a potential market, industrious and creative people, along with the government’s wholehearted support for foreign investors.

Despite global and local difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Vietnam has done a great job, helping Intel Vietnam to continue production and maintain its supply chain, he said.

According to the CEO, Vietnam has great opportunities in the coming decade to engage more deeply in regional and global supply chains and digital ecosystems. He expressed wish that the Government would continue to create favourable conditions for Intel and high-tech enterprises to operate efficiently in the country.

For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the US corporation’s investment expansion plan in Vietnam and affirmed the Government stays ready to facilitate foreign businesses’ operations, including those from the US.

He singled out Intel Products Vietnam for its successful operation in Saigon Hi-tech Park, noting this is the largest high-tech investment project of the US in Vietnam, which has created thousands of jobs for local people, while consolidating Vietnam’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Briefing his guest on Vietnam’s major socio-economic gains, Chinh said in the context of the volatile world situation, the country has maintained macroeconomic stability, ensured large and positive balances, and actively integrated deeply into the world.

Notably, he said S&P recently raised Vietnam’s long-term credit rating to BB+ with a ‘stable’ outlook, and Vietnam is one of two countries in the Asia-Pacific region that have been upgraded to a positive credit rating since the beginning of the year.

The Prime Minister suggested that Intel continue to increase investment in Vietnam, contributing to the country’s ongoing digital transformation, economic digitalization, response to climate change, and training of high-quality human resources.

The Prime Minister also asked Intel to support Vietnam in developing digital, startup and investment ecosystems, while building a research center for long-term development in the country.

He said he has assigned relevant ministries, agencies and localities to create all favourable conditions for Intel to quickly deploy operations in accordance with the law.
