Governor-General welcomes top Vietnamese legislator on Australia visit

VOV.VN - Australian Governor-General David Hurley on November 30 welcomed Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on an official visit to Australia, saying the visit would help strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and two legislatures.

Receiving the Vietnamese leader in Canberra, Hurley recalled his visit to Vietnam in 2009 when he was vice chief of the Defence Force, and wished to visit the country again in future.

The Governor - General said that regular reciprocal visit exchanges between the two countries over the past time show bilateral relations are developing positively, creating the prerequisite for both sides to upgrade their relations to a new level.

Hue for his part congratulated Australia on successfully organizing the 2022 federal election in May, bringing COVID-19 under control and opening its borders to the world. He also briefed his host on Vietnam’s post-pandemic economic recovery efforts, and expected the Governor - General would continue to support the Vietnam-Australia relations.

Both host and guest agreed that the two countries should coordinate in organizing activities to celebrate 50 years of bilateral diplomacy in 2023, including visit, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Hue took the occasion to convey senior Vietnamese leaders’ greetings and invitation to the Governor - General to visit Vietnam in 2023.

He hoped that the Governor-General and the Australian Government would continue to support the Vietnamese community to lead a stable and integrated life in their host country.
