Danish Ambassador honoured with Friendship Insignia

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) awarded the insignia ‘For Peace and Friendship among Nations’ to Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Kim Højlund Christensen in Hanoi on July 4.

Addressing the ceremony, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga reviewed the relations between Vietnam and Denmark, saying Denmark was one of the first Western countries that established diplomatic relations with Vietnam in November 1971 and the first Nordic country that established the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam in 2013.

Denmark is one of ODA donors to Vietnam, focusing on climate change response. It has promoted cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges in order to further strengthen mutual trust and understanding between the two countries and two peoples.

Nga acknowledged the diplomat’s major contributions to bilateral cooperation during his working term, noting he has helped effectively implement a low-carbon economic transformation programme in Vietnam, and lobby large Danish investors LEGO and Pandora to invest in Vietnam, making Denmark the third largest FDI investor in the country.

“The Ambassador has made every effort to promote bilateral relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual trust and respect for each other’s interests. This relationship is developing strongly in various fields such as economy, trade, science-technology, culture and people-to-people relations,” said the VUFO president.

Ambassador Kim Højlund Christensen expressed his honour to receive the insignia, and said no matter what position he holds, he will continue to make a practical contribution to further strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation between Denmark and Vietnam.
