After the ceremony, the two generals held talks at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence.

Gen. Cuong spoke highly of the growing ties between the two countries and two militaries in particular over the years, contributing to fostering long-lasting defense cooperation, in line with the perceptions of the two countries’ senior leaders.

He shared difficulties faced by Cuba due to the western-imposed embargo, and affirmed the Party, State, people and People’s Army of Vietnam always stand side by side and provide maximum support to Cuba within their capabilities, as Cuba did during the former’s struggle for national liberation, as well as during the cause of national construction at present.

Victor Rojo Ramos, for his part, said the relations between Cuba and Vietnam have stood the test of time for the past six decades and developed comprehensively in the fields of agriculture, health, finance, banking, science and technology, as well as on multilateral mechanisms and forums.

Sharing the view that defense cooperation is one of the pillars of bilateral relations, both host and guest agreed that the two sides will increase reciprocal visit exchanges to share experiences in Party building and ideological work, while educating their cadres, officers and soldiers about the special traditional friendship between the two parties, states, and armies.

After the talks, the two generals signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of Party building and ideological work between the two armies.

At a meeting for the Cuban guest on the same day, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defence Minister emphasized that Vietnam has never forgotten Cuba’s heartfelt support and valuable assistance for Vietnam’s revolutionary cause and national construction.

He welcomed the results of the talks and the signing of the MoU which he said lays a firm foundation for protecting the revolutionary gains in each country’s socialist construction.

He proposed the two sides continue effectively implementing the signed cooperation documents, and promote the signing of new cooperation documents, especially a cooperation plan for the 2023-2025 period.

The General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army will create maximum conditions and direct agencies to realise the agreements reached by the two sides, Gen. Cuong assured his guest.
