VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong received Izutsu Shunji, Chief of Staff of Japan Air Self-Defence Force, in Hanoi on June 28.
Sen. Lieut. Gen. Cuong affirmed that along with the positive of the Vietnam-Japan relations, defense cooperation between the two countries has yielded fruitful results, becoming one of the important pillars of bilateral relations.
He said in 2018 both sides signed the Joint Vision Statement on Vietnam – Japan Defense Cooperation towards the next decade that outlines cooperation between their agencies, including between the Air Defense and Air Force of Vietnam and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
He highly appreciated the Japanese Ministry of Defense’s capacity building support programme for the Vietnam People’s Air Defense-Air Force, helping to improve professional and technical levels and enhancing mutual understanding between the two sides.
Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong requested that Gen. Izutsu Shunji continue to support the cooperation model between the two air forces on a par with the relations between the two countries and the two ministries.
The leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army support and stay ready to create all favorable conditions for the two sides to fully and effectively implement the agreed cooperation documents, he assured his guest.
For his part, Gen. Shunji affirmed that he would make efforts to promote effective cooperation between the Vietnam People’s Air Defence and Air Force and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
