Defence Minister holds bilateral meetings with Indonesian, Indian, and Korean counterparts

VOV.VN - Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang held a series of bilateral meeting with his Indonesian, Indian and Korean counterparts on November 22 in Siem Reap in Cambodia within the framework of the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Retreat (ADMM Retreat) and the ninth ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM+).

During the meeting with Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, the two ministers assessed that both nations have paid due attention to promoting defence cooperation, thus achieving many positive results.

Currently, agencies and units of the two sides are actively coordinating to implement the contents agreed by the two ministers during the Minister's official visit to Vietnam in May 2022.

In the coming time, the two sides will continue to ramp up cooperation and exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, promote the mechanisms of Defence Policy Dialogue at deputy ministerial level, exchange intelligence information, and maintain cooperation in staff training.

The two sides will strengthen cooperation between the two countries' navy and air forces, boost cooperation in defence industry, rescue activities, and military medicine.  They will continue to review, and improve cooperation frameworks.

At the bilateral meeting with Indian Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, Minister Phan Van Giang thanked the Minister for his official visit to Vietnam, saying that the visit is an important event marking the 50th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations.

The results of the visit and the issuance of the Joint Vision Statement on the Vietnam-India defence partnership and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on logistical reciprocity between the defence ministries are viewed as important motivations, contributing to taking the relationship between the two countries to new heights, and becoming more and more practical and effective.

In the coming time, the two sides agreed to study and implement the results of the official visit to Vietnam by the Indian Defence Minister and the Joint Vision Statement on the Vietnam - India defence partnership.

At the meeting with Korean Defence Minister Lee Jong-Sup, the two ministers affirmed that defence cooperation is being promoted practically and effectively based on signed documents and agreements, especially the Joint Vision Statement on defence cooperation until 2030.

The two sides agreed to maintain regular exchange of delegations at all levels and consultation mechanisms, including the annual Defence Policy Dialogue at the Deputy Minister of National Defence level.

Minister Phan Van Giang suggested that the Minister continue to have a voice with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOIKA), urging them to boost cooperation in dealing with overcoming war consequences, including Project on Mine Action for Vietnam - RoK Peace Village for the period 2022 - 2026.

The two sides will continue to bolster cooperation in defence industry and technology transfer on the basis of each side's potential and needs, including facilitating the cooperation project between Viettel Group and Hanwha Group of the Republic of Korea.
