Czech Republic backs closer Vietnam-EU ties

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jiri Kozak on December 12 affirmed that the Central European country supports efforts to boost ties between the Vietnamese side and the EU.

During the course of a meeting held with his Vietnamese counterpart Le Thi Thu Hang as part of his visit to the nation from December 12 to December 13, Deputy Minister Jiri said that as the rotating President of the EU Council in the second half of the year, the Czech Government has actively sought the removal of the European Commission’s IUU “yellow card” placed against Vietnamese aquatic product exports.

Along with this support, it also calls on EU member nations to swiftly ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

Deputy Minister Jiri went on to praise the role of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, particularly their contributions to the Central European country’s COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

Deputy Minister Hang spoke glowingly of the visit by her Czech counterpart and the Czech pharmaceutical medical business delegation which she said will help to boost the two countries’ relations, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry.

She emphasized that the Vietnamese side always pays close attention to boosting its relationship with traditional partners, with the Czech Republic being one of its prioritised partners in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Vietnamese Deputy Minister went on to state that the country remains grateful for the Czech Government’s donation of 250,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses that practically contributed to the nation’s COVID-19 containment efforts.

During the course of the meeting the two sides consented to intensify contact and the exchange of delegations at all levels.

They also expressed their satisfaction at the level of co-ordination between the two foreign ministries at multilateral forums, thereby agreeing to continue strengthening ties and mutual support at regional and international organizations.

They also showed their delight at the various economic achievements recorded between the two countries over recent time, thereby agreeing that it is necessary to boost effective and substantive co-operation in areas where the two sides have potential and strengths.

They concurred that they would encourage and create favourable conditions for investment projects and joint ventures of the two countries based on effectively taking advantage of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
