Cuba, Vietnam enhance comprehensive cooperation in new development phase
VOV.VN - Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung visited Cuba from June 20 to 22 as special envoy of Party General Secretary and President To Lam to inform the Communist Party of Cuba of the results of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and discuss cooperation between the two Parties and countries.
During the visit, Le Hoai Trung met with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and held talks with Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.
He also briefed participants at a conference organised by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba on June 22 on the outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Le Hoai Trung conveyed a message from Party General Secretary and President To Lam to General Raul Castro Ruz and First Secretary and President Miguel Diaz-Canel, along with greetings from Vietnam’s senior leaders to Cuban leaders.
He affirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on reinforcing solidarity and supporting the revolutionary cause of the Cuban people, while working with Cuba to augument fraternal cooperation for the development of each country and for peace and stability in the world.
Based on documents adopted at the 14th National Congress and strategic resolutions of the Politburo, Le Hoai Trung provided a comprehensive briefing on theoretical and practical issues related to Vietnam’s 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal) under socialist orientation and lessons drawn from the process.
He also shared Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and the implementation of the 13th National Congress resolution, while outlining major goals, orientations, key tasks and strategic breakthroughs adopted at the 14th National Congress.
Le Hoai Trung also spoke highly of the comprehensive transformation measures, particularly in the economic sphere, recently adopted by the extraordinary conference of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Cuba’s National Assembly.
He expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, Cuba would overcome current difficulties and challenges and continue advancing its revolutionary cause.
Cuban leaders expressed appreciation for To Lam’s decision to send a special envoy to inform Cuba of the outcomes of the 14th National Congress, saying it reflected the special trust and fraternal ties between the two Parties, countries and peoples.
They said they would continue facilitating cooperation between the two countries across sectors to achieve new results serving the interests of both peoples.
Miguel Diaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz sent greetings to Party General Secretary and President To Lam, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and other senior Vietnamese leaders.
They spoke highly of Vietnam’s revolutionary tradition and socio-economic achievements, saying Vietnam’s experience from 40 years of Doi Moi offers valuable lessons for Cuba’s ongoing transformation process.
Both sides consented to continue intensifying high-level exchanges and cooperation among relevant agencies. As 2026 marks the 100th birth anniversary of Fidel Castro, the two sides also agreed to coordinate major commemorative activities while promoting people-to-people and youth exchanges.
Both sides also agreed to continue coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
During the trip, Le Hoai Trung laid wreaths at memorials dedicated to Cuban national hero Jose Marti and President Ho Chi Minh in Havana. He also met Vietnamese community representatives and Vietnamese Embassy staff in Cuba, and visited agricultural, rice and essential goods production projects run by Vietnamese enterprises in Cuba.
The visit concluded successfully, leaving a strong impression of the solidarity and loyalty between the two Parties and countries, as well as their common determination to further enhance the special cooperative relations in the coming period.
