Chief of VPA general staff chairs rehearsals for AARM-30 ceremonies

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Tan Cuong, chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), chaired rehearsals on October 31 for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 30th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM-30) which will be hosted by Vietnam next week.

Deputy Minister Cuong applauded the efforts and close co-ordination of agencies, units, and forces engaging in preparations for the events, asking them to resolve remaining issues in a bid to ensure the ceremonies are held in a thorough and solemn manner, thereby showing the cultural identity of the nation.

The highlight of the ceremonies will be performances featuring various artists from the VPA.

The AARM-30 is not only a competition held for talented gunners from the armed forces of ASEAN countries, but is also an opportunity for them to strengthen solidarity, friendship, mutual understanding, and exchanges.

The hosting of the AARM-30 thereby affirms the nation’s intensive and extensive international integration. Simultaneously, it will give a chance to the armies of ASEAN countries to showcase their strong determination to promote in-depth co-operation, thereby contributing to maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development of the region and the wider world.

The Vietnamese team came third at the 29th AARM-29, which was held in Bandung city of West Java province in Indonesia.

The team, comprising of 33 Vietnamese officers and soldiers from the VPA, brought home nine gold, seven silver, and 12 bronze medals in the submachine gun, machine gun, and shotgun categories.

Furthermore, the first and second places went to Thailand and Indonesia.
