Cambodia treasures relations with Vietnam: Cambodian legislator

Cambodia attaches importance to its traditional friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Khuon Sudary told Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu.

At a reception for the diplomat in Phnom Penh on February 26, the host leader hailed Vietnam’s remarkable progress in recent years, including its efforts to streamline the political system under the leadership of Party General Secretary To Lam.

Khuon Sudary highlighted the long-standing friendship, saying that the two nations always stand together in solidarity and support each other in the struggle for independence, sovereignty protection, and the fight against genocidal regime.

The Cambodian NA, representing the Cambodian people, vows to preserve the solidarity and friendship between the two countries, she said, stressing the need to enhance education efforts to promote mutual understanding, particularly among young people.

She expressed confidence that with his extensive diplomatic experience, Vu will contribute to further strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries and their legislative bodies.

For his part, Vu congratulated the Cambodian people on their great achievements in building long-term peace, ensuring political stability, maintaining sovereignty, improving international position, and advancing socio-economic development. He expressed his belief that Cambodia will obtain even greater successes in building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous nation.

He took the occasion to propose key orientations to further step up the Vietnam - Cambodia relationship in all channels of Party, government, parliament, and people-to-people diplomacy; and bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Khuon Sudary welcomed Vu’s proposals, and agreed that both sides should develop concrete programmes and plans to implement high-level agreements, including those reached at the meetings of the Parties of the two countries, and of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
