Belarus, Switzerland eye stronger cooperation with HCM City

VOV.VN - Nguyen Van Nen, member of the Politburo and secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Party Committee, hosted receptions on October 25 for Ruslan Varankou and Werner Bardill, the consuls general of Belarus and Switzerland in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the meeting with Varankou, Nen expressed his hope that the diplomat would make contributions to further reinforcing relations between Belarus and Vietnam, including in Ho Chi Minh City and localities in the Eastern European country.

The official therefore hailed the opening of the Belarusian Consulate General in the southern metropolis, saying that there exists great potential for the two countries to expand their economic ties moving forward.

He duly thanked Belarus for sharing and providing support for the nation as it seeks to overcome difficulties in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, expressing his firm belief that mutual ties between the two countries will be stronger in the future.

In response, Varankou said Belarus continues to place importance on maintaining and developing sound relations with Vietnam, noting that the consulate general of Belarus will work to promote relations between Belarusian localities and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as linkages between the two countries.

Regarding the Belarusian Prime Minister's planned visit to Vietnam later this year, the diplomat said that the trip, which will be accompanied by many Belarusian economists and investors, is anticipated to create a fresh impetus and potential for bilateral relations.

Upon meeting with Bardill, Nen said the southern city greatly aspires to ramp up co-operation with Switzerland in the fields of finance, banking, construction of transport infrastructure, urban planning, and science and technology application in construction. Indeed, the city is in the process of preparing for upcoming strategic activities in these key areas.

Bardill responded by saying the two major goals in his term are to augment economic ties and consular activities with Ho Chi Minh City, especially in economic, trade, culture, and scientific co-operation.

He voiced hope that municipal leaders will continue to create favourable conditions for Swiss businesses moving forward.
