Attempts to undermine Cambodia-Vietnam friendship will fail: Tea Banh
VOV.VN - Samdech Tea Banh, Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and supreme adviser to the King of Cambodia, said on June 20 that Cambodia-Vietnam solidarity is an unshakable historical truth and that any attempts to undermine bilateral friendship will fail.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 49th anniversary of the journey to overthrow the genocidal Pol Pot regime (June 20, 1977-June 20, 2026) and the 48th anniversary of the founding of the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation’s armed forces (May 12, 1978-May 12, 2026),
Tea Banh strongly rejected false and distorted claims aimed at driving a wedge between Cambodia and Vietnam.
He stressed: “No one will be able to fracture the friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam. Those who attempt to do so will only face repeated failure.”
Referring to these extremists, Tea Banh said they no longer regarded Cambodia as their homeland and were ungrateful, failing to recognise the contributions of those who had guided the country to where it is today.
He also delivered a blunt message, saying that if they did not know how to value their homeland, they should remain abroad, as returning home would not be easy for them.
Tea Banh also expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, while acknowledging the major contributions of CPP President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, whom he said had sacrificed everything for the noble cause of the nation and its people.
Exactly 49 years ago, on June 20, 1977, Hun Sen and several comrades crossed forests, streams and minefields under life-threatening conditions to seek assistance from Vietnam.
That effort contributed to the victory in the war to overthrow the Khmer Rouge regime, liberate Cambodia and save innocent people from an unprecedented genocide, paving the way for the country’s development and prosperity today.
