ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework highlights reopening, recovery, and resilience

VOV.VN - As ASEAN Chair 2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has officially released the Mid-term Review of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 Blueprints and the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework, whilst launching the ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies within the framework of the framework of the 37th ASEAN Summit and related summits.

In his address at the official release, PM Phuc was appreciative of the achievements of the entire ASEAN Community recorded this year, saying that efforts made by ASEAN member states have helped the entire community to overcome numerous difficulties and challenges towards peace, sustainable stability, development, and long-term prosperity. On behalf of all ASEAN leaders, the Vietnamese leader acknowledged and hailed the bloc’s efforts to bring about today's results.

Furthermore, ASEAN should continue its sustained efforts, the PM stated, highlighting solidarity and co-operation as major factors to ASEAN's various successes.

The ASEAN Community Vision 2025 was first adopted by ASEAN leaders at the 27th ASEAN Summit held in November, 2015. In addition, the Mid-term Review of ASEAN Community Vision 2025 Blueprints has been undertaken by ASEAN since the beginning of the year.

Most notably, the mid-term implementation reviews of the Political-Security, Economic and Socio-Cultural pillars have been finalised, with various courses of action being scrutinised. ASEAN leaders have also proposed measures to accelerate the implementation of lines of action that have yet to be solved.

The ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and the Implementation Plan adopted at this Summit represent part of ASEAN's recovery efforts, with a focus on three main phases, including reopening, recovery, and resilience.

During the Special ASEAN Summit on COVID-19 Response held on April 14, PM Phuc proposed the establishment of an ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies in an effort to enhance the overall response capacity of the bloc during public health emergencies. This can be achieved through the mobilisation and distribution of essential medical equipment such as medical masks, gloves, sanitiser, protective clothing, and mechanical ventilators.

During the 37th ASEAN Summit, ASEAN leaders recognised reference documents and officially announced the establishment of the ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies. Speaking on behalf of the country, PM Phuc officially announced a commitment to contribute medical supplies worth US$5 million to the reserve.
