Ambassador highlights President’s visit as a contribution to special Vietnam-Laos ties

VOV.VN - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official friendly visit to Laos from August 9-10 will contribute to deepening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive co-operation between both sides, thus better serving the cause of national reform, building, and defence of each country.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung made the statement in a recent media interview held to mark President Phuc’s visit to Laos at the invitation of General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.

The event marks President Phuc’s first official oversea trip since taking on the role of President of Vietnam. It is also the first time that Laos has received a foreign State leader since its 11th Party Congress, Ambassador Hung told the Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Laos.

During the course of the visit, leaders from both nations will discuss a range of important topics relating to the bilateral relationship, as well as measures aimed at ramping up co-operation across a variety of fields. This includes politics, diplomacy, security, defence, investment, trade, along with socio-culture, regional, and international issues of mutual concern.

Moving forward, the Vietnamese State leader is set to attend the handover ceremony of the Laos National Assembly House, a special gift given to Laos from the nation, Ambassador Hung said, adding that this marks a demonstration of the two nations’ special relationship.

With regard to recent bilateral collaboration and orientations for the following years, the diplomat emphasised that one of the latest and most outstanding results is the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Cooperation Strategy for the 2021 to 2030 period. This is in addition to the Vietnam - Laos Cooperation Agreement for the 2021 to 2025 period which marked the official friendly visit to Vietnam by Laos Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith at the end of June.

The two documents are set to provide the guideline for future co-operation between both nations over the next five to 10 years to develop in a deeper, more substantive, and effective manner, the Vietnamese diplomat stated.

As a means of preserving and developing the unique ties between the two countries, the ambassador suggested that both countries elevate bilateral economic and trade relations on a par with bilateral political, diplomatic, security, and defence co-operation. This should be done whilst educating future generations about the tradition and strategic importance of joint ties.
