AIA Group leader hails VN's improvement efforts in business environment

VOV.VN - Lee Yuan Siong, president and CEO of AIA Group of the United States, hailed Vietnamese efforts to improve the business investment environment during a meeting held on August 1 in Hanoi with Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.

During the meeting, Vice President Xuan congratulated the outstanding business results achieved by AIA Group after more than 20 years of operation in the country, thereby affirming the group's leading position in the life insurance market with practical contributions made to the Vietnamese community.

The Vice President stated that the nation advocates building an open and stable business environment, solving administrative procedures in an effective manner, in which, the digital transformation process will help local people and entrepreneurs conduct business more conveniently.

Along with these efforts, the country will continue to reform the business environment for foreign enterprises and move to expand their operations, she added.

The Vice President emphasised that the nation considers the foreign-invested economic sector as an important component of the economy and will there encourage foreign enterprises to invest more in the Vietnamese market, especially in the financial sector.

In this spirit, the Vice President asked AIA Group to share their experience, not only in the insurance field, but also in financial investment management skills, as well as responding to challenges caused by climate change and other risks in order to ensure investment and sustainable development.

Furthermore, the Vice President outlined that Vietnamese leaders are willing to listen to the opinions of foreign businesses, especially ones from the US, as a means of ensuring the most favourable environment possible for the development of businesses operating in Vietnam in line with Vietnamese law as well as international practices.

The nation committed to bring net emissions to "zero" by 2050 at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

As a way of fully implementing this commitment, the country wishes to build a substantial digital transformation ecosystem that goes straight to promising fields.

Vice President Xuan wishes that foreign partners, including US businesses, to help the nation achieve this commitment through human resource training, infrastructure investment, financial support for digital transformation projects, and highly feasible energy conversion.

The Vice President therefore proposed that AIA Group continue to promote the spirit of community responsibility, intensify charity activities, support the local community, especially for disadvantaged children, as well as communities severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response, Siong thanked the Vietnamese State and Government for supporting and facilitating AIA Group, especially state management agencies operating in the insurance industry.

He added that his group is highly interested in children, logistics, and medical care, with Vietnam being an important market for AIA Group to carry out this investment plan.

The AIA leader firmly believes that the country will prosper in the future and affirms that, moving forward, AIA Group will continue to make greater efforts to contribute to the nation’s sustainable socio-economic development, especially community-based activities and projects in Vietnam.
