HCMC’s District 5 to open more traditional craft streets to lure tourists

District 5 of HCMC is planning to open some more traditional craft streets and provide free wifi on these streets to lure more tourists.

The district has already set up traditional medicine, jewelry and fashion streets, heard a ceremony held recently to launch “Hello District 5” travel guidebook. In the near future, it will reorganize paintings shops on Tran Phu Street and lanterns stores on Luong Nhu Hoc Street to turn them into tourist attractions.

The lanterns street of Luong Nhu Hoc will be opened to visitors during the mid-autumn festival and on the fifteenth of every lunar month.

In addition, the district will make free wifi available on the traditional medicine, jewelry and fashion streets this year so that buyers can make online payments.

“The traditional medicine and jewelry streets (which were opened last year) have attracted a large number of visitors. We are focusing on creating new services and experiences to make them more appealing,” said Truong Thi Minh Kieu, vice chairwoman of District 5.

Au Uyen Phuong, deputy director of the Inbound Department at Saigontourist Travel Service Company, said at the ceremony, “The jewelry street is more attractive as tourists can now watch videos about jewelry, goldsmiths making jewelry and experience some stages of the jewelry making process.”
