The central province of Quang Nam is scheduled to impose social distancing on Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at midnight July 31 after a local resident became infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Provincial authorities urge local residents to remain at home as much as possible and only leave for daily necessities such as food and medicine, in addition to other essential services.
Streets throughout Hoi An fall quiet ahead of the important time, marking the second time social distancing measures have been applied this year to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
The majority of restaurants downtown are now closed, with no tourists left in the locality.
Souvenir shops on Tran Phu street have closed for a few days.
Popular tourist sites such as the Fukian Assembly Hall, also known as Phuc Kien, temporarily suspend activities.
A shop owner spends time thoroughly cleaning the shop.
The owner of a souvenir shop on Nguyen Thai Hoc street shuts the premises ahead of the social distancing period.
Residents buy food to stock up before the social distancing order takes effect.
