The exhibition is divided into three themes. The first focuses on the Truong Son Trail, a vital artery linking northern and southern Vietnam. It recalls a generation who left behind their schools, families and personal dreams to help build the route. Spanning nearly 20,000km, the trail carried more than two million troops and other personnel to the battlefields.

The second theme tells the story of Legendary Route 1C, a wartime supply route through the waterways of the Mekong Delta. More than 13,000 tonnes of weapons, along with thousands of tonnes of food and medical supplies, were transported along the route to the southwestern battlefield.

The route ran through cajeput forests and a maze of canals under constant threat from bombs and gunfire. Along the way, 399 young volunteers lost their lives and another 327 suffered permanent disabilities.

The third theme focuses on the post-war years, including journeys to find former comrades, recover the remains of fallen soldiers, preserve their memories and erect memorial stelae and shrines.

One of the exhibition’s highlights is the experience zone, which has attracted large numbers of visitors. At its centre stands a wooden boat used on Route 1C and crafted by artisans from Ca Mau Province.

3D mapping and interactive technology recreate the southwestern battlefield across rainy and sunny seasons, offering visitors an immersive visual and emotional experience.

Stories of the young people who once served on Route 1C evoke deep emotions as veterans and other witnesses share their memories with visitors.

Many veterans and former youth volunteers have donated personal items linked to their wartime memories, enriching the exhibition and helping pass those memories and traditions on to younger generations.
