Along with moon cakes, lanterns are one of the most popular items sold during the Mid-Autumn Festival, an event which is celebrated annually on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month that falls on September 10 this year.

Making lanterns requires great skills and meticulousness from craftsmen.

Nguyen Thi My, a local villager, says that her family normally start making lanterns from the first lunar month every year.

Each festive season sees her family produce up to 20,000 lanterns.

The village has also been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years, although the situation has changed this year as craftsmen have received plenty of orders from across the country.

Nguyen Van Khang, who has pursued the craft for the past 40 years, shares that he will maintain the tradition of preserving the craft for future generations.
