Multimedia Photos HCM City launches first free ATM rice machine Wednesday, 17:40, 02/06/2021 VOV.VN - The first free ATM rice machine was put into operation on June 2 in Ho Chi Minh City as a means of helping poor people in the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) hotspot. The machine is located in Thanh Loc ward of District 12 where social distancing measures have been imposed following the detection of 20 positive COVID-19 cases. A tonne of rice is being provided to support local poor people. The Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association has called on firms to donate rice to the charity drive. Moving forward, the organisers also plan to install free ATM rice machines in Go Vap district. Local people have their body temperature measured, use hand sanitizer, and maintain a two-metre distance in order to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. Each individual who needs to use the machine is granted two kg of rice per package. Free ATM rice machines first debuted in Ho Chi Minh City on April 7, 2020. Since then around 100 machines can be found across the country, whilst they have also spread to neighbouring Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, and East Timor.
