Wood exports cross US$10-billion mark in seven months

VOV.VN - Vietnam earned US$10.2 billion from exporting wood and wooden products during the seven-month period of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 5.6%, according to Vietnam Customs.

The commodity remains among the country's top seven export earners. The US retained its position as the largest market, importing US$5.1 billion worth of wood and wooden products, accounting for 50% of Vietnam's total export value in this sector. China ranked second at approximately US$1.5 billion, surging over 46% compared to the same period in 2025, followed by Japan and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

To boost wood exports during the remainder of the year, General Secretary of the Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association Ngo Sy Hoai emphasized the urgency of stepping up national-scale trade promotion and international communications. This will help international consumers and partners better understand the role and contributions of the Vietnamese wood industry in global supply chains.

Alongside trade promotion, Vietnam must bolster its trade defense capacity to cope with an increasing number of lawsuits, investigations, and tariffs on exported goods. Such capacity needs to be strengthened across national authorities, business associations, and enterprises to proactively mitigate growing commercial risks.
