VinFast and Infineon expand partnership in electromobility

VOV.VN - VinFast, Vietnam’s first Electric Vehicle (EV) maker, has signed an agreement with Infineon Technologies AG, a world leader in semiconductor solutions, to extend their partnership in the field of electrochemical mobility.

The signing ceremony took place on October 13 at the 2022 OktoberTech Asia Pacific held in Singapore.

Under the agreement, both sides will establish VinFast - Infineon Development Center (VICC) that specialises in the application of electrochemical mobility technology to promote VinFast's smart mobility solutions.

Boasting in-depth knowledge of the system and a rich portfolio of both products and technologies, Infineon will be capable of providing technical support and instructing VinFast in selecting semiconductor components, including traditional technologies and those based on WBG (Wide Bandgap) semiconductor materials.

The centre is expected to go into operation in the first quarter of next year by developing a new electric drive system (EDT) to be used in VinFast's electrified platform in the initial stage.

The two sides will seek to participate in the initial phase of the development of VinFast's next-generation electrochemical mobility solutions. They will discuss the future needs of semiconductors to achieve stability in the supply chain.

This makes up part of VinFast's global intelligence connection strategy as it seeks to ensure a competitive advantage in the global EV market.

Le Thi Thu Thuy, global CEO of VinFast, said the EV maker’s primary goal is to bring smart mobility solutions to secure a sustainable future, adding that Infineon's innovative products and solutions will help to improve VinFast's production efficiency, thereby supporting the company to rapidly achieve its goals.

Peter Schaefer, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Infineon Technologies, underscored the importance of the growth of electrochemical mobility, noting that the firm is fully committed to accelerating this process with partners such as VinFast. In addition, they will strive to support the Vietnamese firm’s electrification journey and the advancements in the design of their electric vehicle platforms.

Previously, the two companies had worked closely for more than three years with Infineon’s solutions being applied to VinFast's electric vehicles.

Infineon is also widely recognised as one of the global market leaders in the transformation of the automotive industry towards the goal of sustainable mobility.
