Vietnamese specialty spices set to enter US supermarkets

VOV.VN - Various types of salt and dipping sauce from various Vietnamese regions will hit the shelves of many supermarkets and restaurants in the United States from the third quarter of this year.

Food manufacturer Dh Foods recently signed a co-operation agreement with Heritage Beverage (HB), an importer and distributor of high-end Vietnamese products in the US.

The deal will see HB exclusively distribute Dh Foods' Vietnamese specialty spices to the US through such channels as Whole Foods, Costco, Cost Plus, Safeway, Albertson's, and Kroger, along with a number of Vietnamese restaurants in the US.

Nguyen Trung Dung, CEO of Dh Foods, revealed that the deal can be viewed as a major leap forward in helping to introduce Vietnamese spices to the US, one of the largest markets in the world boasting 300 million consumers, including 30 million Asian descents and three million Vietnamese origin.

Dung expressed his hope that the move into the US market will open up a new chapter for Dh Foods, as well as for the Vietnamese spice industry to fully tap into the potential market in the near future.

Sharing the reason for choosing Dh Foods as the next development brand, Louis Nguyen, chairman of Heritage Beverage, said Vietnamese cuisine has steadily increased its presence in the US over the past decade.

He noted that many Vietnamese products have faced several challenges in terms of quality and competitiveness when entering the demanding market, adding that Dh Foods' products boast great strengths in terms of quality.

Nguyen also stated that the firm is working with supermarkets in the US to devise plans aimed at making inroads into the demanding market this year.

He revealed that the company will start to buy containers to the US from the third quarter onwards, and that the supply strategy will begin with Vietnamese supermarkets and Asian supermarkets first before expanding to US supermarkets.

Dh Foods currently supplies over 150 condiment products, such as salt, dipping sauce, natural and marinate spices, and fish sauce to the market.

These products are present in Vietnamese supermarket chains such as CoopMart, Lottemart, and Aeon. They are exported to foreign markets including Japan, Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, the UK, and Germany.
