Vietnamese fruit sees growing presence in Chinese market
VOV.VN - Fruit trade between ASEAN member states and China continues to expand, with Vietnamese fruit becoming increasingly visible across the Chinese market.
The trend has been supported by improving logistics links and deeper regional economic integration.
In provinces and municipalities such as Guangxi, Yunnan and Chongqing, imported tropical fruits from ASEAN, including durian, mangosteen, longan, mango and pineapple, are becoming increasingly common in wholesale markets, supermarkets and modern retail channels.
Vietnamese products such as dragon fruit, mango, rambutan and durian are also reaching a wider consumer base, contributing to a broader range of fruit available to Chinese consumers.
The growing variety of imported tropical fruit has been accompanied by lower retail prices for many products, making them more accessible to consumers. Distributors attribute the trend to increased competition among suppliers as well as improvements in logistics and customs clearance procedures.
A fruit vendor at a wholesale market in Nanning said the wider range of imported products, including fruit from Vietnam, has given consumers more choices in terms of quality and price while helping sustain demand during peak seasons.
The expansion of fruit trade has been supported by the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and ongoing efforts to upgrade the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. These mechanisms have facilitated trade through preferential tariffs, streamlined quarantine requirements and more efficient customs procedures.
In Yunnan, the use of RCEP certificates of origin has helped businesses reduce import costs and improve supply chain efficiency. Local customs data showed that the number of companies making use of preferential tariff treatment for fruit imports from ASEAN has increased significantly, helping expand agricultural trade.
Logistics infrastructure has also played a key role. Transport links such as the China-Laos Railway, cross-border logistics corridors and modern cold-chain systems have shortened delivery times and helped preserve product quality during transit.
With China's vast consumer market and deeper economic integration between China and ASEAN, particularly through the upgrading of their free trade arrangements, ASEAN fruit exports, including products from Vietnam, are expected to maintain growth momentum and further solidify their position in regional agricultural supply chains.
