Vietnamese CPI up 2.54% over seven-month period

VOV.VN - The nation’s consumer price index (CPI) during the initial seven months of the year edged up 2.54% on-year, while core inflation rose by 1.44%, as announced by the General Statistics Office (GSO) on July 29.

The CPI in July increased by 0.4% compared with June, marking a rise of 3.14% from the same period last year. This can be seen as the urban area experienced a hike of 0.42%, whilst the rural area saw an increase of 0.37%.

Among the 11 main commodity groups, up to 10 groups marked a monthly increase in prices, with only transport services registering a decline in prices of 2.85% due to falling petrol prices.

Most notably, the largest contributor to the overall index is the group of food and catering services, which recorded an annual rise of 3.81% with the COVID-19 pandemic being brought under control, thereby leading to the demand for this service increasing.

Furthermore, the price of materials for housing upgrades in the seven-month period rose by 7.84%, while that of rice went up 1.15%, leading to 0.16 and 0.03 percentage point rises in CPI, respectively.

Moreover, domestic gold price rose 6.31% on-year in July, an increase of 6.58% on-year for the first seven months of the year. Meanwhile, the price of US$ in Vietnam also saw an annual rise of 1.77% in July and 0.08% in the January to July period.

The GSO added that the core inflation recorded in July increased by 0.58% compared to the previous month and 2.63% over the same period from last year.
