Vietnam, Mozambique boost agriculture cooperation

Tri, who was made a working trip to Mozambique, briefed his host on the achievements Vietnam has made in agricultural development over the years, saying from a rice importer, Vietnam has become one of the top three rice producers and exporters in the world. Some of Vietnamese long rice grains have been awarded the best in the world.

The application of scientific and technological advances in agricultural production has helped Vietnam ensure national food security and reserve an adequate amount of rice for export, he said, adding Vietnam agriculture is considered a platform for socio-economic development in Vietnam.

Vietnam is willing to continue supporting and sharing its agricultural experience with Mozambique in a closed loop production system, from farming, processing, and production to developing into commercial products, he assured his host.

Tri said promoting agricultural cooperation is also the centerpiece of the fourth meeting of the Vietnam and Mozambique Intergovernmental Joint Committee.

Deputy Minister Olegário dos Anjos Banze for his part welcomed his Vietnamese counterpart’s proposal, saying Mozambique wishes to learn from Vietnam’s agricultural successes.

The Government of Mozambique is keen to boost agricultural cooperation with Vietnam, as agriculture remains the mainstay of the economy with 70% of the population living in rural areas.

He thanked Vietnam for implementing joint agricultural cooperation projects in Mozambique, as well as for sending experts to help his country develop education, healthcare and telecommunication sectors.

He expressed hope that more Vietnamese businesses would come and transfer cashew processing technology as Mozambique now considers cashew as one of the top agricultural development priorities in the country.
