Vietnam, Japan to ramp up cooperation in CPTPP implementation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Japan will increase cooperation to effectively implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The agreement was reached during phone talks on May 26 between Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and Japanese Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy Yasutoshi Nishimura.

Minister Nishimura said Japan will play host to a CPTPP ministerial meeting next month to examine the United Kingdom’s membership bid following its official submission of an application earlier this year, and asked for support from Vietnam.

Minister Dien spoke highly of Japan’s thorough preparations for the upcoming meeting, adding that Vietnam will work closely with Japan and other CPTPP member countries to make the event a great success.

Exchanging views on CPTPP implementation, Nishimura requested that Vietnam fully support initiatives to be put forward by Japan, and that both sides continue to ramp up cooperation to effectively implement the trade deal.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Minister suggested that Japan offer the most optimal conditions for its businesses who are keen to invest in the Vietnamese market.

This move is anticipated to help the Vietnamese side become part and parcel of the supply chain of Japanese enterprises, especially in the manufacturing of automobile, electronics, medical equipment, garment and textiles, and other fields that can serve to benefit the development of bilateral economic and trade ties in future, Minister Dien noted.
