Vietnam imports US$33 billion of computers, electronics from China

VOV.VN - In 2024, Vietnam’s imports of computers, electronics, and components surpassed US$100 billion for the first time, with nearly one-third sourced from China, amounting to over US$33 billion, according to the General Department of Customs.

Statistics show the country’s total imports of the products reached approximately US$107 billion, up 22.4% compared to 2023.

China, one of the world’s largest producers of electronic components, was the largest supplier, earning nearly US$31.54 billion from its shipments to Vietnam, a significant 49% increase over the same period in 2023.

Other key suppliers were the Republic of Korea that exported US$29.22 billion worth of the products to Vietnam, up 12.4% year on year, and Taiwan (China) that shipped US$12.62 billion worth of the products, up 34.4%.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s exports of computers, electronics, and components generated US$71.7 billion last year, a 25% increase compared to 2023.

This marks the second consecutive year the products have surpassed mobile phones in export value, with a US$17.8 billion margin over phone exports.

Despite the growth, its trade deficit for the products hit US$35.3 billion, a 15% increase from 2023.
