VOV.VN - Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Laos surged by 28.2% year on year to reach over US$947 million during the opening nine months of the year, according to the Vietnamese Trade Office in Laos.

Vietnam’s exports to Laos increased by 6% to more than US$447 million, while its imports soared by 57.9% to more than US$499 million.

Key Vietnamese export items included iron and steel (with turnover grossing more than US$57.6 million), machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts (over US$39.6 million), means of transport and spare parts (roughly US$5 million), and fertilizers of all kinds (approximately US$17.25 million).

Meanwhile, major Vietnamese imports from Laos included rubber (with turnover of over US$106.9 million), timber and wood products (nearly US$71 million), and ores and minerals (over US$58 million).

Most notably, September alone saw their two-way trade turnover rise by 10.8% to over US$99 million compared to the same period from last year.

Almost all export items to Laos, except for gasoline, endured a downward trend, with turnover falling to more than US$2.3 million, while strong import turnover from Laos was recorded in ores and minerals at US$8.5 million.

According to the Vietnamese Trade Office, the trade turnover between the two countries in October is anticipated to increase in import direction as several Lao provinces and cities are still deploying lockdown measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
