Vietnam and Kansai enhance trade co-operation

VOV.VN - Over 150 businesses from the Kansai region of Japan participated in the Vietnam-Kansai startup workshop which aims to ramp up trade co-operation and further develop Vietnam’s start-up eco-system.

The virtual event was co-hosted by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Osaka, the Japan Trade Promotion Organization (JETRO), and the Kansai Economic Federation.

In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Consul General Nguyen Hong Ha stated that Vietnam has risen to become one of the three leading nations to boast the largest startup ecosystem in ASEAN over recent years.

At present, it boasts more than 1,400 organisations which are fully capable of supporting startups and over 3,000 startups operating in the fields of fintech, e-commerce, healthcare, education, and logistics.

The total investment capital in the local startup market reaches approximately US$1 billion annually and is anticipated to recover strongly moving into the post COVID-19 period.

In addition, the Vietnamese Government has moved to establish the National Innovation Center (NIC) with the primary aim of developing the country’s startup and innovation ecosystem since 2019.

Most notably, the NIC offers a range of incentives to attract foreign investment funds, as well as international startups, with a number of foreign technology companies investing and doing business locally.

At the workshop, Takeo Nakajima, chief representative of JETRO Hanoi, spoke highly of the development of the Vietnamese startup ecosystem and introduced several start-up projects such as J-Bridge and ABC Platform.
