US likely to investigate paper bags imported from Vietnam

VOV.VN - The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has received a petition for anti-dumping investigation on imports of paper shopping bags from the Vietnamese market.

The products include paper shopping bags with handles of any type which are classified under HS codes 4819.30.0040 and 4819.40.0040.

The presumptive period of investigation is from October 1, 2022, through to March 31.

The investigations are based on a petition filed by the Coalition For Fair Trade in Shopping Bags on May 31.

According to the Coalition For Fair Trade in Shopping Bags, the import volume of the investigated product from Vietnam into the United States in the period from April 2022 to March 2023 accounted for 13% of the total import volume into the US, meaning Vietnam has the second highest volume of exports to the US, behind only China.

There are 14 Vietnamese companies listed in the petition. The alleged dumping margin for Vietnamese exporters ranges from 63.67% to 128.81%.

DOC said that the estimated time for an initiation, if any, will be within 20 days from the date of receipt of the petition.
