Tay Ninh, Dutch firm explore US$125 million waste-to-energy project

At the meeting, Evert Jogchen Lichtenbelt highlighted Harvest Waste B.V.’s experience in developing waste-to-energy (WtE) plants, alongside building and operating integrated waste management models.

During the Tay Ninh Province Investment Promotion Conference in the Netherlands in June 2026, Harvest Waste B.V. signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tay Ninh Department of Industry and Trade to study investment in a local waste-to-energy plant, with an estimated total investment of around US$125 million.

The CEO noted that the project is expected to generate high-skilled jobs while promoting technology transfer. The plant has a planned processing capacity of approximately 1,000 tonnes of waste per day under strict environmental protection standards.

Over its entire lifecycle, the project is calculated to contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The facility benefits both the locality and Vietnam in fulfilling climate change and emission reduction commitments, while generating shared value in international cooperation.

Lichtenbelt hailed the determination and prompt coordination of all parties involved, noting that exchanges and research have progressed rapidly and effectively since the MoU signing in Europe.

For his part, Nguyen Van Quyet stated that following administrative restructuring, Tay Ninh boasts expanded development space and a growing economic scale, with a focus on industry, urbanization, trade, services, and synchronous infrastructure.

Amid rapid growth, increasing waste volumes require modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly collection, treatment, and reuse methods.

Tay Ninh considers environmental protection vital to elevating growth quality and local competitiveness. Accordingly, the province pays special attention to integrated waste management, landfill reduction, resource recovery from waste, and waste-to-energy conversion.

The provincial Party Chief asked the company to continue studying and proposing solutions tailored to local conditions, expressing a desire for detailed discussions on technology, investment models, project scale, input waste requirements, treatment options, energy recovery, and practical experience in other jurisdictions.

Regarding environmental projects, Tay Ninh prioritizes investment efficiency alongside waste treatment performance, technological standards, environmental impact mitigation, energy efficiency, and long-term sustainability throughout the project lifecycle.

Relevant provincial agencies will coordinate, provide information, and assist the company during research and survey stages in accordance with regulations. The province stands ready to facilitate procedures within the legal framework.

Tay Ninh expects cooperation with Harvest Waste B.V. to go beyond a single project and open up a long-term cooperation model in the environment, energy, and circular economy sectors, contributing to improving living standards, efficient resource use, and green, sustainable local development.
