Second Asia Durian Conference to promote Vietnam–China supply chain

The event, to be jointly organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Ho Chi Minh City Branch (VCCI-HCM), iFresh Asia Fruit, and DAKAGO Co., Ltd., will also feature a Vietnam–China durian business matching programme aimed at fostering closer commercial ties between exporters and buyers.

The conference comes amid robust growth in Vietnam's durian exports. According to Vietnam Customs, export turnover of the fruit reached US$269.2 million in May 2026, surging 278.5% from the previous month and 32.2% compared with May 2025. During the first five months of the year, durian exports totaled US$562.4 million, up 45.2% year on year and accounting for 20.3% of the country's total fruit and vegetable export value.

Fresh durian was the leading export product, generating US$483.1 million, an increase of 43.4% from a year earlier and representing 85.9% of total durian exports. Frozen durian exports climbed 60.3% to US$77.9 million, making up 13.9% of the total, while processed durian products accounted for the remaining 0.2%.

China continued to dominate as Vietnam's largest export market, importing US$492 million worth of durian during the five-month period, up 76.7% year on year and accounting for 87.5% of Vietnam's total durian exports. Exports to Taiwan (China) and Hong Kong (China) brought back US$17.6 million and US$15.8 million, respectively.

Another milestone for the sector came on July 1, when Vietnam officially launched a nationwide durian traceability system, strengthening the management of growing area codes, improving quality control, and enhancing transparency across the export supply chain.

The conference will focus on strengthening links between Vietnamese growers, cooperatives and major Chinese distributors and e-commerce platforms. It will also encourage exporters to move from bulk shipments to standardised products with better packaging and stronger branding. Other topics include inspection and customs clearance requirements, post-harvest handling, and technologies to improve storage and competitiveness.

A business-to-business (B2B) matching session between Vietnamese and Chinese fruit importers and exporters will be held on July 15.

The two-day conference is expected to attract around 500 participants, including government officials, agricultural experts and business representatives from both countries. It seeks to foster a more transparent, stable and sustainable durian supply chain while helping Vietnamese exporters better meet the increasingly stringent requirements of the Chinese market and strengthen the international profile of Vietnamese durians.
