Number of HCM City-based firms resuming operations on sharp upswing

VOV.VN - The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City announced that 4,850 businesses in the southern city resumed operations in January, a year-on-year rise of 36.3% and up roughly 500% compared to the previous month.

Throughout January, over 3,190 new firms were established, up 24.6% against the same month from 2021, while 382 were dissolved, a decline of 7.73% on-year and 27.2% on-month.

This comes following many enterprises making positive moves in January. For example, the Saigon Hi-Tech Park reported a production value of more than US$1.65 billion and an export value of US$1.54 billion, both representing annual rises of 5%.

In addition, the southern city’s January agro-forestry-fishery production value inched up by 1.5% on-year.

Furthermore, the largest Vietnamese city also enjoyed an annual increase of 19.4% in terms of budget revenue in January, thereby amounting to VND47.8 trillion, equal to US$2.1 billion.

Moving into February, Ho Chi Minh City will adopt various solutions aimed at the safe and flexible adapting to and effective control of the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst continuing to improve the overall quality of urban governance and the local investment environment, whilst also supporting enterprises.

The municipal People’s Committee is anticipated to issue a plan to restructure State-owned enterprises and those with State capital in the city in the 2021 to 2025 period. This will see an added focus more on restoring old apartments and building social housing projects, speeding up construction on the metro line No.1, whilst also investing in building the metro line No.2 and belt roads No.3 and 4.
