Largest Vietnamese expo in food industry underway in HCM City

VOV.VN - The Vietnam International Food Industry Exhibition (Vietnam Foodexpo), the largest of its kind in Vietnam, opened in Ho Chi Minh City on November 16, attracting roughly 400 businesses from Vietnam and 20 other countries and territories worldwide.

The expo featured approximately 500 booths, introducing a wide range of agricultural products such as raw and processed aquatic products, processed food, food processing technology, food preservation and packaging technology, as well as food safety and hygiene technology.

In his opening address, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai noted the event will provide an ideal opportunity for exhibitors to follow up on current local food trends and relevant Government policies.

The expo represents one of the prominent trade promotion activities in the field of the food industry and is held in order to create a professional trade and investment forum, he said.

Apart from major exhibitors from Argentina, Russia, and Poland, the organisers have put on a special area for visitors to allow them explore food from the Republic of Korea, with plenty of Korean foods introduced in Vietnam for the first time.

As part of the function, the Vietnam Food Forum 2022, chaired by the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE), will also take place.

Furthermore, a trade connection programme between 50 Vietnamese firms and foreign partners will be planned to help local businesses expand their market share and connect to distribution systems overseas.

The expo which is underway at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre is expected to welcome over 20,000 visitors.

The first Vietnam Foodexpo got underway in 2015 as part of a national trade promotion programme run by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT). The annual expo was held virtually in 2020 and 2021 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
