Japanese retail giant AEON expands investment in Da Nang
VOV.VN - Japanese retail giant AEON has expanded its investment the central city in Da Nang with the opening of AEON Da Nang Thanh Khe and plans to develop a second shopping mall in Hoa Xuan, reinforcing the group’s expansion strategy in Vietnam.
On July 3, AEON Vietnam officially opened AEON Da Nang Thanh Khe, its fifth streamlined shopping mall and supermarket (SSM) in Vietnam and the first AEON SSM model in central Vietnam.
The opening marks AEON’s first presence in Da Nang and a key step in expanding its retail network in Vietnam.
AEON Da Nang Thanh Khe has a total commercial floor area of around 30,000 square metres, including about 21,000 square metres of leasable space, and houses nearly 60 specialty stores featuring both international and domestic brands.
Nearly 50% of the brands are making their debut in Da Nang. The project is expected to create around 1,700 jobs and contribute to local economic growth.
Tezuka Daisuke, executive officer of AEON Group, chief representative of AEON Group in Vietnam and general director of AEON Vietnam, said Vietnam is a key strategic market for the group.
AEON aims to triple its business scale by 2030, with 60% of the group’s planned investment in ASEAN allocated to Vietnam, he added. In addition to the Thanh Khe project, AEON is also moving forward with investment in AEON Mall Da Nang Hoa Xuan.
At the event, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh welcomed AEON’s expanding investment in the city, saying it shows investor confidence in Da Nang’s business environment and highlights growing cooperation between the city and Japanese investors.
He also called on AEON Mall Vietnam to accelerate construction of its second shopping center in Hoa Xuan to support the city’s retail, trade and service sectors.
