Indonesia Day celebrated in southern Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Indonesia Day programme opened in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on December 17, attracting the participation of 17 Indonesian businesses and distributors.

The two-day event, co-organised by the Can Tho administration and Consulate General of Indonesia, consists of a number exchange activities in the fields of culture, trade, tourism, and food.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Agustaviano Sofjan, consul general of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City, noted that the friendly ties between both nations has been lifted to a level of  strategic partnership, and trade cooperation is major pillar of bilateral relations.

He recalled that two-way trade last year hit US$11.5 billion, beating their already set target of grossing US$10 billion in bilateral trade for the first time. The initial 10 months of this year saw their trade fetch US$11.6 billion.

Recently he said the two sides held the fourth meeting of the Joint Committee for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in July and they agreed to set a goal of raising two-way trade to US$15 billion by 2028.

Sofjan also expressed belief that the event would open further co-operation opportunities for the two countries in the fields of trade, investment, tourism, and culture in the future.

Two seminars on business cooperation opportunities and tourism promotion are scheduled to be held within the framework of the event.
