HCM City’s FDI climbs to more than US$6.8 bln in first half

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City’s foreign direct investment (FDI) more than doubled in the first half of 2026 to over US$6.8 billion, up 114% year-on-year and meeting 61.8% of its full-year target.

At a press briefing on the city’s socio-economic performance on June 25, a representative of the HCM City Department of Finance said total registered FDI over the past six months, including newly registered capital, additional capital for existing projects, and capital contributions, share purchases and stake acquisitions, exceeded US$6.8 billion.

During the reviewed period, the southern city  saw 888 newly licensed investment projects with total registered capital of more than US$1.12 billion.

Among existing projects, 99 increased their registered capital, with additional capital totaling more than US$3.18 billion, accounting for the largest share of total FDI attracted in the first half of the year.

It also registered 861 cases of foreign investors making capital contributions, share purchases or stake acquisitions in domestic enterprises, with total registered value surpassing US$2.52 billion.

Notably, in the first half of the year, HCM City granted investment registration certificates for a series of large-scale data center projects.

These included a 52-MW data center project with investment capital of US$508.7 million by a consortium of three Singaporean investors- Hathor, Frontier and Evolution- as well as a hyperscale data center complex with a capacity of 60 MW and investment capital of US$480.2 million, developed by Starmason JSC.

In addition, cooperation agreements have also been signed for several billion-dollar data center projects between major corporations and domestic partners.

Notably, G42 has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with FPT, VinaCapital and Viet Thai Investment Group to develop large-scale data center infrastructure in HCM City, with total planned investment of up to US$2 billion. The project is expected to be located in the Saigon Hi-Tech Park.

Accelerated Infrastructure Capital (AIC) and Kinh Bac City Development Holding Corporation (KBC) have also signed an agreement to invest in an AI Data Center at Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park in Cu Chi commune, HCM City, with total planned investment of around US$2.1 billion.

According to the HCM City Department of Finance, the sharp rise in FDI inflows in the first half of 2026 shows that the city’s investment environment remains attractive, while providing a favorable foundation for achieving double-digit growth this year.
