HCM City, Da Nang break ground on major infrastructure, industrial projects

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City and the central city of Da Nang simultaneously launched and inaugurated major infrastructure, urban renewal, and industrial projects on August 29, with total investment reaching hundreds of trillions of Vietnamese dong, to mark the 81st National Day (September 2, 1945-September 2, 2026).

In Ho Chi Minh City, Politburo member and Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Tran Luu Quang attended a ceremony to inaugurate three projects and start construction on eight others, representing a combined investment of over VND181.412 trillion (US$6.95 billion).

Funding was mobilized from public investment, public-private partnerships (PPP), the World Bank, and private enterprises. The main event took place at the National Highway 13 Upgrade and Expansion Project in Hiep Binh Ward, virtually linked to the urban renewal project at Ma Lang and Ga-Gao Market area in Cau Ong Lanh Ward.

The largest project launched in the southern metropolis is the Ma Lang and Ga-Gao Market urban renewal project, capitalized at VND15.674 trillion (US$600.88 million).

Stalled for nearly three decades in the city center, the project received municipal People's Council approval in June 2026 and is being implemented under a Build-Transfer (BT) contract combined with city funds to provide on-site resettlement for long-term residents.

It is followed by two component projects of HCM City's Ring Road 4 expressway worth over VND14 trillion (US$536.7 million), alongside upgrades to National Highway 1, National Highway 13, and social housing developments.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People's Committee Nguyen Cong Vinh emphasized that the projects aim to comprehensively improve residents' quality of life, refine infrastructure, and boost regional connectivity. He instructed contractors to guarantee construction quality and progress while strictly preventing loss and waste.

On the same morning, the Da Nang People's Committee and the Nam Thang Binh Industrial Park Infrastructure Investment JS Company broke ground on three key components in Sub-zone B of Nam Thang Binh Industrial Park, with a total investment of nearly VND1.1 trillion (US$42.17 million).

These include an 18-hectare ready-built factory space valued at VND670 billion (US$25.68 million), a wastewater treatment plant with a daily capacity of 4,200 cubic meters worth VND 160 billion (US$6.13 million), and technical infrastructure for Phase 2 capitalized at VND268 billion (US$10.27 million).

Spanning 346 hectares with registered capital of over VND4 trillion (US$153.34 million) in Thang Dien and Thang Truong communes, Sub-zone B is designed as a green, smart industrial zone prioritizing high tech, telecommunications, electronics, and renewable energy.

The investor has also engaged in investment promotion in the US and Europe, securing initial agreements with high-tech and AI corporations.

Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Phan Thai Binh urged investors to accelerate progress and complete international-standard infrastructure, contributing to Da Nang's two-digit economic growth targets.
