HCM City appreciates JETRO's role in promoting trade and investment
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City has hailed the contributions of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to trade and investment promotion, while expressing the hope that it will continue expanding cooperation and support Vietnamese businesses in strengthening their capacity to participate more deeply in Japanese supply chains.
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc made the remarks during a meeting with Okabe Mitsutoshi, Chief Representative of JETRO Ho Chi Minh City, on July 7.
At the meeting, Okabe said JETRO held 576 trade and investment promotion meetings during the first half of 2026 to facilitate business links between Japanese companies and Ho Chi Minh City.
JETRO also sponsored and co-organized the Supporting Industry Show (SIS 2026) in Ho Chi Minh City from July 1 to 4, resulting in thousands of direct business connections between participating companies.
On human resource development, JETRO had completed a survey and promoted information about the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, under the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City, to Japanese companies. It also organized a job fair that attracted more than 400 students, aimed at providing high-quality human resources for businesses in both countries.
Municipal leader Duoc spoke highly of JETRO's contributions to trade and investment promotion and human resource development, saying they have helped strengthen the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as cooperation between Japan and Ho Chi Minh City.
He expressed the hope that JETRO will continue serving as a bridge for cooperation by increasing both the number and quality of trade and investment projects in the city, expanding cooperation in workforce development, and supporting Vietnamese businesses, including those in Ho Chi Minh City, in strengthening their capacity to participate more deeply in Japanese supply chains.
The southern city is accelerating the development of additional high-tech industrial parks to attract more high-quality Japanese foreign direct investment, Duong added.
