HCM City accelerates FDI attraction, approaching US$11 billion mark

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City attracted over US$9.8 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) over the seven-month period of 2026, a 44.5% year-on-year increase, bringing the city closer to its full-year target of US$11 billion.

The result affirms the attractiveness of its investment environment while creating momentum to boost capital inflows into high-tech, innovative, and sustainable sectors.

During the first half of 2026, the city secured over US$6.8 billion in FDI, with July alone accounting for approximately US$3 billion.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office, 1,188 new FDI projects received investment registration certificates over the past seven months, with total registered capital reaching nearly US$3.62 billion. Additionally, 181 existing projects adjusted their capital upward, adding nearly US$3.48 billion in value.

Foreign investors also made 1,119 capital contributions and share purchases, totaling US$2.737 billion in registered capital. Notably, many projects focused on sectors such as hyperscale data centers, biomedical technology, and smart electronic devices.

To further drive FDI into high-tech industries, the southern metropolis is expanding the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) by nearly 195 hectares in Long Phuoc Ward (former Thu Duc City).

A Science Park is slated for establishment on this expanded area, designed as a next-generation high-tech park. It will integrate modern digital infrastructure, green infrastructure, and research and innovation spaces, aiming for carbon neutrality before 2050.

Starting in the fourth quarter of 2026, SHTP plans to call for investment into the Strategic Technology Center. Concurrently, Ho Chi Minh City is developing industrial parks and export processing zones based on smart, ecological models, while preparing stable digital and energy infrastructure to welcome shifting global supply chains.
