Hanoi workshop to promote Vietnam’s energy transition
VOV.VN - Cong Thuong (Commerce) newspaper will host a workshop in Hanoi on June 22 to work out strategies and stakeholder cooperation to accelerate energy transition in Vietnam.
The gathering is expected to bring together officials and experts from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, the US Embassy in Hanoi, the US Agency for International Development, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), GE Gas Power and GE Renewable Energy.
Participants will examine energy transition orientations in Vietnam, the US’ view on energy transition and support for Vietnam, challenges and opportunities of the domestic electricity market in relation to the growth of renewable energy, and the role of technology in supporting energy transition in Vietnam.
They will also make recommendations in terms of policy, technology and capital, to accelerate energy transition in the country.
Vietnam was committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 at the 26th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP26) in Scotland last November. The government has since worked out and implemented a number of programmes in various areas, including an energy transition programme, to meet the COP26 commitments.
However, Vietnam needs to learn from international experience in undertaking these programmes.
